Why treatment comes up on every St. George water heater job
18–22grains per gallon, the City of St. George’s own softener setting.
The City of St. George’s Water Distribution Division tells residents to set a softener to 18 grains per gallon, and no higher than 22. That is the utility’s own number, not a softener salesman’s.
Every major tankless water heater maker publishes a hardness limit, and all of them stop at 200 milligrams per litre, about 12 grains. St. George runs 18 to 22. Most of these are exclusions on scale damage rather than a blanket void, though Noritz says the warranty becomes null and void. Said plainly: a tankless heater on untreated water here is an uninsured heat exchanger. Softened water runs at 0 to 1 grain, which clears every limit in the table.
