What the work is
The assessment is a walk-through of the whole house, not a bathroom sales call. Entry and thresholds, the route from bed to bathroom, the kitchen, the laundry, lighting, door hardware, and where the hands actually go.
The output is a written report: what would help, in what order, and roughly what each one involves. It is written so you can hand it to any contractor, including one who is not us.
That is deliberate. A report that only makes sense as a quote from the company that wrote it is a sales document.
What is included
- A walk-through of the whole house with whoever lives in it
- Watching how the space is actually used rather than measuring against a standard
- A written report you keep, ordered by what would help most
- Plain notes on what each item involves, so any contractor can price it
- Honest notes on what we would not bother doing
What is not
- A quote. That comes after, if you want one
- A medical or occupational therapy assessment. This is about the house
- Any obligation to use us for any of it
Who does it
Our team includes a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist. That certification belongs to a person, not to a company, and we describe it that way because it is the truth.
Never 'we are certified' as a company, because that is not how the certification works and you should be suspicious of anyone who says it that way.
Who might pay for it
There are programmes in Utah that pay for home modification, and the amounts and the eligibility are specific. The guide below sets out what exists, including the veterans' grants, with the current published maximums rather than figures that circulate out of date.
What to ask anyone quoting this, us included
- Do I keep the report, and can I take it to someone else?
- Who is doing the assessment, and what is their certification?
- What would you tell me not to do?
