What the work is
A disposal swap is mostly plumbing under the sink: the mounting ring, the discharge, the trap arm and, if there is a dishwasher, the high loop or air gap that stops the dishwasher draining into the disposal.
The other half is electrical. Where the existing supply is a like-for-like connection we make it; anything beyond that is done by our licensed electrical partner, and we will tell you which one yours is before you book.
What is included
- Removing the old unit
- New mounting assembly
- Discharge, trap and dishwasher connection
- Testing under load and checking for leaks
- Taking the old unit away
What is not
- New circuits, switches or receptacles, which are our licensed electrical partner's work
- Repairing a sink flange or basket strainer that fails when disturbed
- Replacing a corroded trap arm inside the wall, which we will show you and quote
Do not put a septic-safe claim on us
If your property is on a septic system rather than city sewer, tell us. What a disposal does to a septic system is a real question and the answer depends on your system, not on a sticker on the box.
What to ask anyone quoting this, us included
- Is the electrical connection like-for-like, or does it need an electrician?
- Is there a high loop or an air gap for the dishwasher?
- What horsepower, and why that one?
