What the work is
This is the right job when the furnace or air handler is sound and the cooling is finished. It is the wrong job when the two are the same age and the second one fails the winter after we leave, so we will tell you which situation you are in.
The indoor coil is replaced with the outdoor unit. That is not upselling; it is what makes the rated performance and the warranty real.
The question this job turns on is the age gap. If the furnace or air handler is within a few years of the cooling equipment, replacing only the cooling half means doing the disruption twice and paying the labour twice. If the heating side is genuinely newer, this is the cheaper and correct job.
There is one more check before we quote: the existing indoor equipment has to be able to move the airflow the new outdoor unit needs. Modern units are often less tolerant of restricted airflow than what they replace, and a blower that was adequate before can be the reason a new system underperforms.
What is included
- Outdoor unit and matched indoor coil
- Line set replaced or flushed and verified
- Pad, disconnect, condensate and the electrical connection
- The permit, and the old equipment taken away
- The blower and airflow checked against the new equipment's requirement
What is not
- Leaving an unmatched indoor coil in place
- The furnace or air handler, unless you have asked for it
What to ask anyone quoting this, us included
- How old is the indoor equipment, and what happens if it fails next year?
- Is the coil matched, and is that on the quote?
- Is the line set new or flushed?
- How old is the furnace or air handler, honestly?
- Can my existing blower move what this unit needs?
