What the work is
Pavers do not fail. Bases fail. Depth of compacted aggregate, compaction in lifts, edge restraint and drainage are what separate a patio that stays flat from one that dips at the corner in three summers.
You cannot see any of that once the pavers are down, which is why we photograph each stage and give you the photographs. It is the only way you can check a base after the fact.
What is included
- Excavation to the depth the base requires
- Compacted aggregate base, placed and compacted in lifts
- Bedding, pavers laid to pattern, cut edges
- Edge restraint
- Joint sand and compaction
- Photographs of every stage, handed over
What is not
- Sealing, which is its own item and not always the right choice
- Drainage structures beyond surface fall, which are quoted separately
- Irrigation or lighting under the patio, unless quoted in
- Structural retaining, which is its own item
Water has to go somewhere, and here that matters

What to ask anyone quoting this, us included
- How deep is the base, and compacted in how many lifts?
- Where does the water go?
- Will you photograph the base before you cover it?
