What the work is
A cleanout is a capped access point on the sewer line, ideally outside near where the lateral leaves the house. With one, a drain call starts at the cleanout. Without one, it starts by pulling a toilet or going up on the roof, and every visit costs more and takes longer.
A two-way fitting lets a cable or a camera run in both directions from the same opening: back toward the house and out toward the city connection. That is the difference between finding out where a problem is and finding out only that there is one.
If your house does not have one, this is the cheapest thing you can do to make every sewer problem you ever have less expensive.
What is included
- Locating the lateral before digging
- Excavating, cutting in the fitting and setting the cap at grade
- Backfill and compaction
- Putting the surface back the way we found it where that is possible, and telling you first where it is not
What is not
- Replacing line that turns out to be broken where we open it. We will show you and quote it
- Landscape replanting beyond restoring the ground
- Concrete or paver replacement, which is quoted separately when the line runs under hardscape
Where it goes matters more here
Lots here often put the lateral under a driveway, a paver walk, or a converted water-wise front yard with new rock and drip line over it. Choosing the cleanout location badly can mean cutting through the thing you just paid for. We locate first and show you the mark on the ground before anything is opened.
If your yard has an active turf-conversion rebate on it, tell us before we dig. The district's agreement has requirements about what the converted area has to look like, and it is easier to plan the pit than to argue about it afterwards.
